Futurama

Futurama is an Emmy Award-winning animated American sitcom created by Matt Groening, and developed by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen for the Fox network. The series follows the adventures of a former New York City pizza delivery boy Philip J. Fry after he is accidentally frozen, seconds after the start of a new millennium, on January 1, 2000 and is revived one thousand years in the future.

20th Century Fox TV has recently sent out a casting call for actors to voice the parts of Leila, Fry and Bender of the hit series Futurama according to a report by Variety. Apparently contract talks have broken down between John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katy Sagal (among others) and the studio after a salary compromise couldn’t be reached. Futurama is scheduled to air on Comedy Central in mid-2010, however a reduced budget means that the show is facing a makeover. A smaller writing staff and a shorter delivery schedule have already been planned to save expenses. To explain their position 20th Centrury Fox released the following statement:
"We love the Futurama voice performers and absolutely wanted to use them, but unfortunately, we could not meet their salary demands. While replacing these talented actors will be difficult, the show must go on. We are confident that we will find terrific new performers to give voice to Matt and David's brilliantly subversive characters."
With limits already placed on writing staff and the production schedule, the quality of new Futurama episodes seems sketchy to begin with. Losing well loved voice actors might be a death knell for what is already looking to be a shaky restart for this well followed series.
