This sub-par fourth season, which started pretty perfect and then progressively got worse, consisted of a slew of rehashed SG-1 storylines, boring filler episodes, and poor character arcs. It's a wonder Stargate Atlantis got picked up for a fifth season at all.
We saw little actual gate travel this season - where the Stargate used to be a character in and of itself, it has become a special guest star. Weak stories and some bad acting were the theme, and it seemed as though the writers just got tired of writing solid, complete episodes. The problem with having such a huge ensemble cast is that if it is not guided in the proper direction, you very quickly lose interest in all the characters.
For a sci-fi show with budget considerations, the show actually looks pretty good. At times, it's even better than good. The audio is uneven, as when some of the characters speak low and it's hard to hear everything without tinkering with the volume.
Special Features consist of audio commentaries, photo galleries, and a hope for redemption from season five.
